Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament host Vigil to Stand with Migrants as part of One Church, One Family National Campaign
Victoria, Texas—the Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament led a prayerful public witness outside Incarnate Word Convent, 1101 N. E. Water Street, on November 20, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. The event is registered with the One Church, One Family campaign, a national movement of U.S. Catholics calling people of faith to publicly demonstrate solidarity with migrant families, asylum seekers, and refugees. The Incarnate Word Sisters event is one of more than 100 events that have been planned across the country as part of the effort.
“The Catholic Church proclaims that human life is sacred since we were all created by God. Therefore, we all have dignity no matter what our national, racial, ethnic, economic, and ideological differences may be. That dignity of the human person is the foundation of a moral vision for society, not only to love God but to love our neighbor as ourselves.” said Sister Marian Sturm, OVISS, Region 12 Justice Promoter.
In the Catholic tradition, November 13 is the Feast Day of Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini, the patron saint of immigrants and the first American saint to be canonized. The 50+ events across the country around this day culminated the campaign, which began with over 50 events that took place on October 13, 2025. The body of U.S. bishops, individual bishops, and Catholic organizations have been speaking out against the implementation of indiscriminate deportation that go against the Catholic Church’s teaching on migration, which is informed by the Bible and Catholic moral teaching.
“As Catholics and people of deep faith, we reject the culture of fear and silence that dehumanizes, and we choose instead to stand with migrants,” shared Jon Gromek of the Ignatian Solidarity Network, one of the principal organizers of the campaign. “Together, our voices will send a powerful message to defend the dignity of our neighbors, family members, fellow parishioners, classmates, coworkers, and friends.”
The local event was organized by Sister Marian Sturm, OVISS, and Sister Maria del Rosario, OVISS, representatives from Incarnate Word Convent, with friends, and also included speakers: Sister Maria del Rosario, OVISS, who witnessed the fear of immigrants, and two immigrant women who gave their testimonies about the abusive treatment they experienced.
The One Church, One Family campaign is organized by the Ignatian Solidarity Network in partnership with several Catholic organizations, including multiple Jesuit provinces, Jesuit Refugee Service, Leadership Conference of Women Religious, NETWORK Catholic Social Justice Lobby, Pax Christi USA, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops' Migration and Refugee Services, among others.
